Four new businesses across Bassetlaw, including two in Retford, have secured thousands of pounds in council funding to help them open their doors.
Woodaroma and Tall Trees childcare, both based in Retford, received a combined share of just over £20,000 through Bassetlaw District Council's High Street Shop Fit Out Grants, with the money going towards shelving, equipment and other improvements needed to begin trading.
Jason Davies, owner of Woodaroma, said: "Without the Shop Fit Out grant, I would have created something ordinary, but the grant allowed me to create something special."
The scheme supports new businesses moving into previously vacant town centre premises, covering structural works or equipment costs. Other recent recipients include Cafe 81 in Harworth and Chick n Slice in Worksop, both of which received £20,000 towards their fit-outs.
Cllr Charles Adams, Cabinet Member for Business and Skills, said: "We wish these new businesses every success and are pleased they have benefitted from our Shop Fit Out Grants. This is just one approach we have been taking to attract new businesses to our high streets, encouraging investment and creating opportunities."
The grants have been supported by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), with funding provided by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Further Support Available
While the council-wide Shop Fit Out Grants have now closed, new business support remains available in Worksop through the Pride in Place Programme. The Worksop Together Board, working in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council, currently offers three grants: the High Street Shop Fit Out Grant, the Worksop Shop Frontage Grant and the High Street Business Support Grant.
