Clumber Park's Lunch-Stealing, Hard-to-Manage Cat Retires After 15 Years

A much-loved cat with a reputation for stealing lunches and a demanding attitude has retired from his post at Clumber Park after 15 years on the job.

Mr Tibbs, the resident feline of the estates yard team at the National Trust's Clumber Park in Worksop, has officially hung up his pest control duties and moved in with a former staff member following a rise in his medical needs.

The National Trust confirmed he is "settling into retired life very well" -- though few who knew him would expect anything less from a cat of his stature.

Over his 15 years at the park, the black and white cat became a fixture among staff and volunteers -- though not always for the right reasons. In a tongue-in-cheek farewell post on social media, the Clumber Park team gave an honest appraisal of their long-serving colleague.

"He never scored particularly highly in his personal development reviews," the team wrote. "His attitude often left a lot to be desired, and he developed quite the reputation for stealing lunches. Despite having absolutely no management responsibility, he remained remarkably demanding and always expected more from those around him."

The trust said his base with the rangers and garden team had become "no longer a safe place" given his increasing health needs, prompting the move to a quieter home with someone who knows him well.

Despite the glowing non-reference, the farewell was a warm one. "He was much loved by staff and volunteers alike, and he'll be greatly missed around the yard," the team added, wishing Mr Tibbs a "long and happy" retirement -- and fully expecting him "to be treated like the king he already believes himself to be."
