The organisers of the annual Retford Christmas Lights event have announced some changes to this year’s festivities due to the forecasted adverse weather conditions.
According to the notice, the event scheduled for Sunday, 24th November will still take place as planned, but with some modifications to ensure the safety and comfort of attendees.
Whilst families and guests will be able to enjoy a range of market and craft stalls inside the Town Hall, visit Father Christmas, and indulge in delicious local food and drinks, the difficult decision has been made to cancel all main stage entertainment and the outdoor market.
The Christmas lights switch-on will still proceed at 5pm as scheduled. However, the organisers have opted to reduce the scale of this year’s event in light of the current and predicted weather conditions from Storm Bert.
“Public safety is absolutely paramount,” the notice states. “With the difficult weather forecast, the decision has been made to reduce the scale of this year’s event to ensure families can enjoy the season’s festivities in comfort.”
Despite the scaled-back programme, the Retford Christmas Lights event is still expected to provide a festive atmosphere for the local community. Visitors will be able to soak up the holiday cheer, browse the indoor market stalls, and witness the highly anticipated Christmas lights display.
The organisers have emphasised their commitment to prioritising the well-being of attendees, and they encourage the public to plan their visit accordingly and dress appropriately for the conditions.
