Retford Motorists Pay Premium at the Pumps

Local motorists’ complaints about Retford’s high fuel prices appear to be justified, according to a recent price comparison investigation.

The study found that Retford’s average unleaded petrol price of 139.33p per litre is significantly higher than neighbouring towns, with Gainsborough (134.65p), Worksop (135.01p), and Doncaster (135.03p) all offering better value at the pumps.

This means Retford drivers are paying nearly 5p per litre more than their counterparts in Gainsborough, just a few miles away. For a typical 55-litre family car, this difference amounts to an extra £2.75 per tank.

The investigation also revealed that Retford’s prices are above both the Nottinghamshire county average of 137.46p and the UK national average of 137.17p per litre for unleaded fuel.

Among Retford’s eight filling stations, prices range from 137.7p to 142.9p per litre. The ASDA stations offer the lowest prices in the area, while motorway service stations charge the highest rates.

“Rip off Retford living up to its name again” commented local resident Peter Brooks on social media, echoing the frustrations of many local motorists.

The data suggests that Retford motorists’ concerns about paying over the odds for fuel are well-founded, with local prices exceeding both regional and national averages. This price disparity raises questions about local competition and pricing strategies among Retford’s fuel retailers.
