Residents in Nottinghamshire’s rural villages will benefit from improved bus connectivity with the launch of two new services connecting Newark and Retford from Monday, 2nd December.
Nottinghamshire County Council has supported the redesign of bus routes 37 and 38, which will replace the current 339 service. The changes will directly serve communities in Cromwell, Grassthorpe, Low Marnham, and Normanton on Trent.
Marshalls, the local bus operator, will continue to run the service Monday to Saturday, offering passengers a more streamlined travel experience. A key improvement is that travellers will no longer need to change buses when journeying between Retford and Newark.
Councillor Neil Clarke MBE, the council’s Transport and Environment lead, described the changes as making travel “easier for passengers”, particularly those in more isolated rural areas.
Dan Stone from Marshalls highlighted additional benefits, noting the new routes will “open up brand new journey opportunities” and potentially encourage more people to use public transport.
The service improvements are part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, aimed at enhancing rural connectivity.
Passengers are advised to check the new timetables before travelling from 2nd December.
