Bassetlaw District Council is set to invest over £103 million in council tenants’ homes over the next five years, ensuring they are well maintained, safe, and energy-efficient.
The five-year Housing Capital Programme, covering 2025/26 to 2029/30, was approved at a Cabinet Meeting on 6th February and will go to full council on 27th February for final approval.
Councillor Jonathan Slater, Cabinet Member for Housing and Estates at Bassetlaw District Council, said:
“This five-year plan shows our ongoing commitment to invest in our properties, while also regenerating the estates where our tenants live. Tenants will directly benefit from the improvements, while work to raise the energy efficiency of our homes will also provide support by helping to reduce energy bills at a time of increases in the cost of living.”
The plan includes a direct investment of £52.5 million in council homes, funding improvements such as new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, and roofs. Efforts to combat damp and condensation will also be prioritised, alongside energy efficiency enhancements including wall insulation, boiler replacements, and renewable energy installations.
In addition, £19 million will be allocated for estate regeneration, aiming to enhance green spaces and improve community environments. This initiative has already begun on the Carlton Wimpey Estate in Carlton in Lindrick, where efforts are underway to revitalize the area and address anti-social behaviour.
The Council is also committing £6.2 million to modernise Independent Living Centres for older tenants, with projects including upgrades to Conway Gardens in Retford and Swallow Court in Misterton.
Further allocations include £3.7 million for disability adaptations to meet rising demand and £1.9 million to upgrade the warden call system, ensuring it remains fit for purpose while maintaining fair costs for tenants.
This significant investment demonstrates Bassetlaw District Council’s commitment to improving living conditions, supporting tenants, and fostering stronger, safer communities across the district.
