Have Your Say: Bassetlaw Residents Asked to Shape Future Development with New Design Code Consultation

Bassetlaw District Council is inviting residents and stakeholders to help shape the future look, feel, and function of development in the district through a new Design Code consultation.

The proposed Design Code will complement the existing Local Plan and adopted Neighbourhood Plans to ensure that future housing, business, and industrial developments are high quality, sustainable, inclusive, and reflective of the local area. It will also provide clear guidelines on how new developments should integrate into their surroundings in both urban and rural communities.

A six-week consultation period, which began on Monday, 17th February, seeks feedback from residents on key development aspects, including parking, open spaces, lighting, home sizes, energy efficiency, and the use of building materials that reflect local heritage.

Cllr Steve Scotthorne, Cabinet Member for Identity and Place, said: “High-quality design is crucial for successful new developments. The new Design Code for Bassetlaw will establish clear standards and guidelines to ensure all new housing, businesses, and other developments are appropriate for their location and meet high-quality standards.

“This consultation provides a valuable opportunity for residents to highlight design challenges and share their views on how the new Design Code can address these issues.”

Feedback from the consultation will be used to refine the draft Bassetlaw Design Code, ensuring it reflects the perspectives of local residents and stakeholders. A second consultation round on the updated code is planned for Summer 2025.

Residents can view the Design Code information and provide feedback by visiting www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/bassetlawdesigncode. Hard copies are available at local libraries and town halls across the district. For more information or to request a copy, residents can call freephone 0800 170 1224.
