Burst Water Pipe Causes Chaos on Retford’s Carolgate, Affecting Local Businesses

A burst water pipe caused significant disruption on Carolgate in Retford late on Wednesday night, January 15th, leaving several businesses struggling to open today. The incident occurred around 10pm, reportedly due to ongoing roadworks in the area, leading to severe flooding on the street.

Local businesses, including the Idle Valley Tap pub, BAKE Endless Summer tanning salon, and others nearby, have been severely impacted. Many are unable to open their doors today due to the damage caused by the flooding, with water seeping into premises and affecting essential utilities.

County Councillor for East Retford Mike Introna took to social media last night to address the concerns of residents and business owners. In a statement, he said:
“For those impacted tonight at Idle Valley Tap end of Carolgate, spoke with Anglian Water and they say they will have their loss adjuster down in the morning and NCC Emergency Team have been in touch with BDC Deputy Chief Exec to support in the morning too.”

The flooding has left a significant portion of Carolgate inaccessible, with local authorities urging people to avoid the area while repair works continue.
