Lidl Cat Voted ‘Retfordian of the Year’ 2024!

In an unexpected and heartwarming turn of events, our community has spoken, and the beloved Lidl Cat, also known as Supermarket Sweep has been crowned the first-ever Retfordian of the Year!

The voting for this inaugural award exceeded all expectations, with an incredible 4,000 votes cast by passionate local residents. The competition showcased the true spirit of Retford, highlighting the extraordinary individuals and, in this case, one extraordinary feline who has captured our community’s heart.

Our winner, affectionately known as the Lidl Cat, has become a local icon, regularly spotted outside the local Lidl and Asda petrol station. This furry celebrity has brought joy, comfort, and a sense of community connection to countless Retford residents.

The overwhelming response to our first Retfordian of the Year Award has inspired us to expand the concept. We’re excited to announce that next year’s competition will feature multiple categories and prizes, allowing us to recognise the diverse talents and contributions within our wonderful community.
