Make Money From TikTok: The Ultimate Guide

INTRO

You’ve probably seen all the videos on TikTok and YouTube about ‘TikTok Niche Pages’ and ‘TikTok Automation’ and about how the TikTok Creator Rewards Program pays out $1 per 1000 views and in this guide I’m going through all that, explain how everything works, how these viral videos promoting this stuff are mostly fake and explain how to actually make money on TikTok.

TIKTOK CREATIVITY PROGRAM

The TikTok Creativity Program Beta was introduced in 2023 (now renamed the Creativity Rewards Program) as a way to allow creators to earn more money from their content. The previous TikTok Creator Fund only paid less than $0.10 per 1000 views which is similar to how much you earn from YouTube Shorts if you are in the YouTube Partner Program.

The entry requirements for the TikTok Creator Rewards Program are:

  • Live in a Country where the Beta is currently active, these are the U.S, U.K, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, and Korea.
  • Have 10,000 TikTok Followers.
  • Have 100,000 Video views in the past 30 days.
  • Not to have posted reused and unoriginal content.

If you meet these requirements, then you shouldn’t have an issue with getting into the program.

THE GAME PLAN

Okay so now you know what you need to do, the next question is how do you actually do it. I’m not going to go through creating a TikTok account because if you’re reading this you probably already have one. So the first step is getting 10,000 followers.

This is the absolute hardest part of getting in the TikTok Creator Rewards Program because you need to think of something to post that will attract followers. Now there’s a few options to getting followers, depending on how much time and/or money you’re willing to invest. Yes, it is possible to pay for 10,000 followers, but we’ll get to that.

For posting content to get to 10,000 organically I recommended 2 methods.

Method 1: Post Picture Slides

These types of posts usually get the best immediate engagement and can help ramp up your followers quickly. There are loads of different niches you can do this in, from horror/true crime to AI generated imaginings of different countries’ national animals. As long as you are consistently posting, and make interesting content, you should get followers. The only issue is time, this will take a while.

Method 2: Post Interactive Videos

These are, in my opinion, the go-to videos when it comes to making money on TikTok, these are the videos that get engagement, likes, comments, and followers. Interactive Videos are videos where you’re asking the viewer to engage, whether it be a quiz, and opinion, their choice of different options. It may seem stupid but people actually do comment. This is how I made my first $1000 on TikTok within 5 days of posting these videos and got over 1,000 followers in that time. You could realistically have 10,000 followers in a few weeks. The only issue is they require a bit more effort than Method 1 and you will have to post 1-2 times a day if you want quick returns.

Note: A key thing I want to stress is that you shouldn’t get too hung up on a niche, I know all the YouTube Videos and TikTok Videos talk about picking the best niche but initially, you shouldn’t care what is the best for making the most money, you care about getting to 10,000 followers. After that you can change.

Method 3: Buying TikTok Followers

Now before you roll your eyes and think I’m trying to sell you something after already buying this guide, I’m not. This is the completely optional, but quickest method of getting 10,000 followers. But it works, I got an account monetized this way, and it only costs around $60, which you can make back within a few days of posting once you’re in, so think of it as an investment. If you Google this, you will find a lot of dodgy websites trying to sell you followers, but as someone who has spent over $500 on YouTube, Twitter and TikTok via these websites I can tell you I only trust one place and that’s QQTube. It’s a marketplace for these Services so there are varying prices, and if you sign up they give you $1 absolutely free to try out so you can see its legit without having to spend any money, which gets you around 150 followers on TikTok. I would advise you to have posted at least 10-15 videos before you buy followers so it appears to be realistic.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE 10,000 FOLLOWERS

You’ve made it to 10,000 followers doing any of the methods above. Now you need 100,000 views in 30 days.

Depending how you got the followers, you have probably already done this in the process, but if you did Method 3 then you probably won’t have. What I would suggest now is finding what you actually want to post, and start posting that, if the videos are like I described in Method 2 then this should work and you should get this amount of views pretty quickly. On my latest account, just my 2nd video alone got 132k views in 4 days. So this is fairly easy. Picture Slide Shows are also a great way to reach 100k views quickly as you can just copy the latest trends which all seem to get a lot of views.

YOU’VE JOINED THE CREATIVITY PROGRAM!

Okay so now you have your 10,000 followers and your 100,000 views, you can officially join the Creativity Program. It’s time to start making money.

There are some requirements when it comes to what videos make money on TikTok, they are:

  • The Video has to be over 1 minute long, 61 seconds is fine.
  • The Video has to get over 1000 views before it is eligible to make money but once it has 1000 views you’ll get the money from those views.
  • The Viewer must watch 5 seconds of the video for the view to count as a Qualified View. Qualified Views are the views you get paid on.
  • The Video must not contain unoriginal or reused content, this includes reuploading podcast clips with added gameplay and captions, which everyone on TikTok tells you to do. THIS DOES NOT WORK and these videos won’t earn you money. I have tried this so many different ways so don’t even waste your time. Nobody earning money on TikTok is going to show you the exact video they make so don’t believe them when they tell you it’s that easy.

If a video does all that, it can make money.

BOOST ENGAGEMENT

So depending on the type of video you make will determine how much engagement you receive, the more a video is liked, commented on, favorited and shared will determine how much it gets pushed into the feed. I think a lot of people talk about watch time but I’ve found this doesn’t impact videos much. I have a video with over 1 Million views and the average watch time is 11 seconds and the video is 63 seconds long. It’s the other things that help push it in the feed, in my opinion.

So here are some tips I have for boosting engagement to help push your videos to the For You feed:

  • At the very start of a new account, make a few other accounts and use those accounts to comment, like, favorite and share your videos. You won’t have to do this for long but it does help initially.
  • Reply to every single comment. At the start you should definitely be doing this. Once you get to the point of going onto TikTok and having 100 new comments, then maybe stop.
  • Make errors in video on purpose, you’ll always get people who comment telling you you’ve made a mistake, just reply and act stupid. Errors can include spelling mistakes, wrong facts, putting the wrong number in lists compared to things you actually show. People are often strongly opinionated about political or geographical things so people would comment more to correct them. For example, if you’re talking about things from Britain, include something from Ireland but say it’s British. This will cause chaos and people will comment.

OTHER TIPS

In addition to the above tips to boost engagement, I recommend the following best practices.

  • Post once  a day minimum. I’m not sure if there’s a maximum amount of times you should post, but any more than 2-3 videos a day is probably spammy.
  • Post at different times, but the same times each day. So for example, I’m in the UK so I post first thing in the morning, mid afternoon and then last thing at night, so there’s always an even gap between each video. The evening video usually does well with the American Audience.
  • Use playlists for the same type of videos. I’m not actually sure if they help much but I have seen people watch multiple videos in a row.
  • Pin your biggest video to your page. This will help it increase in views even more because most people want to watch popular videos to see what it’s about. I had a video on 900k views that had really slowed down. After I pinned it, it reached 1 million views the same day.

HIGHEST PAYING NICHES

A lot of YouTubers/TikTokers talk about the best paying niches but these might not always translate to the type of video you make. A lot of them say different RPMs like it’s definite but they always change.

The only advice I would offer when choosing a niche is to think about what advertisers would rather pay more money for.

This comes into play when you make your videos as well, if your video is aimed at a consumer market like the U.S, then the RPM will be higher than if it’s targeted towards an Eastern European or African country.

If your content is based around things then choose something that can be sold, for example if your videos are just about the news or celebrities then it’ll pay less compared to cars, tech or travel because those are things that can actively be sold.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY WITH TIKTOK CREATOR SHOP

The TikTok Creator Shop is TikTok’s affiliate marketing tool which allows its creators to promote products on their videos and make a commision when an item is sold via their link. This allows creators on TikTok to make money without being in the Creator Rewards Program.

But how do you actually use the TikTok Creator Shop to make money? Well in this guide we’re going to show you, step by step, exactly how you can do it.

TikTok Creator Shop Eligibility Requirements

Like most advanced features on TikTok, there are some eligibility requirements. These are:

  • Have 1,000 TikTok Followers
  • Be 18 Years Old
  • Post A Video To TikTok Within The Past 28 Days

Once you’re eligible and all these criteria are met, you can apply.

Finding A Product To Promote

Once you’ve been accepted into the TikTok Creator Shop you’ll be able to access the Dashboard where you’ll find your Payment Options, Product Marketplace, Earnings, Showcase, Tutorials and more. To find a product to promote we want to go onto the Product Marketplace.

Using the Product Marketplace you can see trending products and check through loads of different categories to find a product you want to promote. In all honesty, it doesn’t really matter what type of product you want to promote, as long as it’s had previous sales and includes videos in its description.

So for this example, we’re going to choose the Pet Hair Remover. It’s a fairly cheap product, has previous sales, has a decent percentage commision and includes a video in the description.

So now we actually need to promote the product, and there are different ways to do this, but the most effective is to show the product in action so people know what they’re getting.

To show the product in action, we have 2 options.

  • Buy the product yourself and make some of your own videos.
  • Download videos of the product in use from other people.

Now I’m not going to go into the ethics of using other peoples videos to promote a product, but thats the option we’re going to go with, since it’s free and takes way less time.

As we can see from the above screenshot, there is a video with this product in use, so we’ll download that video and repost it on our own page with our own link.

How To Download Product Videos From TikTok

To save this video from TikTok we firstly need to go onto the video and copy the link to the video. To do this, simply go onto the video, hit the share icon and then the copy link icon.

Depending on what device you’re using could change the next step, but I use iPhone so this is what I do.

Firstly, you want to download the Documents app which can be used as a web browser and file storage app. Once you have the app, open it up and go onto the browser tab.

Then you need to go to https://snaptik.app, which is a website that allows you to download TikTok videos without the TikTok watermark. Once on the website, simply paste in the URL of the video you copied from TikTok.

The video will then load and you can download it, which saves the video in the file storage part of the app. From there you can save to your normal photo app ready to post on TikTok.

Posting The Video To TikTok

Now we have the video, we want to actually post it to TikTok and link the product. Firstly, we need to add the product to our Showcase. Your Showcase is a section on your TikTok profile that has products you want to promote, so people viewing your profile can see them and buy them, so you get a commision. You need to add products to this to be able to link to them on videos. You can add a product to your showcase when viewing the product in the Product Marketplace.

On the part of the posting process where you input your Description, Hashtags, Location etc. is where you can link the product. Just under the location section there is a section that says Add Link. When you press this it will bring up 2 options, Product and Books. We want to choose the Product option.

Once you select Product you’ll be able to select products from your showcase.

Once you select the product, you can add a custom name to the link which is how it will appear in the video.

Press Add, and then the product will be linked on the video.

Then you can add some other important things such as the Description, Hashtags and Location. These are all important for how the video is promoted and if you’ll make any sales, but at the end of the day it could just be luck.

If you are lucky enough to make a sale, you’ll get a notification and the sale will be recorded in the TikTok Creator Shop.

A key thing to note is commision money won’t actually appear in your account for withdrawal until the product has been delivered to the customer and then they haven’t requested a refund within a few days. Once this has cleared, you’ll be able to withdraw the money to PayPal or your Bank Account.

You should also note there is a minimum withdrawal amount on the TikTok Creator Store, in the UK where I’m based, that’s £3. So for the US that’s probably around $5.

The TikTok Creator Shop is a great way to make some extra money if you’re willing to give it a try and meet the requirements, but its important to have realistic expectations. Most people will probably make little money doing this, but some creators do make a lot of people. If you want to buy the products to promote, you can get creative with the type of videos you make to show off the product. If you don’t want to buy the products, then you’re relying on how good other people’s videos are.

How To Make Money On TikTok Without The Creator Rewards Program

Since TikTok introduced the Creator Rewards Program in 2023, it has been the number one source of revenue on the app, but getting into the CPB doesn’t come easy. It requires 10,000 followers on your account as well as 100,000 views in the past 30 days. Even worse, its limited to only a few countries currently, so if you’re in Asia, Africa and most European countries, you’re out of luck. But don’t fear, in this article we’re going to run through 3 ways of making money on TikTok even without the Creator Rewards Program.

Promote Products from the TikTok Creator Shop

The TikTok Creator Shop is TikTok’s affiliate marketing tool which allows its creators to promote products on their videos and make a commision when an item is sold via their link. This allows creators on TikTok to make money without being in the Creator Rewards Program.

Like the TikTok Creativity Program, the TikTok Creator Shop does have some eligibility criteria to meet before you can start promoting products and earning money. There are:

  • Have 1,000 TikTok Followers
  • Be 18 Years Old
  • Post A Video To Tiktok Within The Past 28 Days

These are obviously a lot easier to meet compared to the 10,000 followers required for the Creator Rewards Program.

The basic runthrough of how to use the TikTok Creator Shop to make money is to find a product you want to promote, buy the product or find other peoples videos promoting that product, post a video and add that product link to the video. That way when people see the product in the video and they want to buy it, they can find the link straight away and if they do decide to purchase it, you get a commision.

Promote and Sell Products through the Link in your Bio

One of the most popular online “Side Hustles” is Print-on-Demand where you create a design, stick it on a mug or t-shirt, stick it on Etsy and use a Print-on-Demand service to fulfill the orders, meaning you never have to handle stock yourself. TikTok is a great tool to use in order to promote and sell your products.

Again, you need at least 1,000 TikTok followers to do this since it requires putting a link in your TikTok bio so people can easily find your products. Unless they really, really want it, they aren’t going to go onto Google and go through the hassle of searching for it, so having the link to your store or product in your bio is going to get you a lot more customers.

A great example of this is with the TikTok page ArtifyAmsterdam. Their niche is Retro/Nostalgia using AI generated images to generate engagement, which they also sell in the form of posters on Etsy.

As you can see from the screenshots above, they focus heavily on the Nostalgia niche, only post Slideshows and always include their product on the last slide. Customers can then find their products through the link in their bio which then takes them to their Etsy store.

Their Etsy store picture above shows they have made over 200 sales of their products, with the average cost being just under £30. Thats over £6800 in sales! Obviously you would have to factor in the cost of creating the products, maybe they have a monthly subscription to an AI image generator like Midjourney, Etsy’s cut from the earnings and the cost to run the Print-on-Demand service but they should still be earning a decent amount from this.

Receive Gifts when Livestreaming

Going live on TikTok is a great way to build a community, engage with fans and have fun, but it’s also a good way of making some money when you aren’t in the Creator Rewards Program. Like the above suggestions, you also need 1,000 followers to be able to go live.

When going live on TikTok, viewers of your livestream can interact, write comments and also send gifts. These gifts cost the viewer real money to buy, and when they send them to you, you in turn receive money for that gift. TikTok takes a cut of the amount but it could still be a way to earn some extra money.

A recent trend of TikTokers going live are people who pretend to be a NPC and when they receive a gift they act out an action, which is repeated as many times as they receive the gifts. This makes for sometimes awkward and sometimes funny content, which often takes place in a random city street, such as Harrison NPC.

While the Creator Rewards Program offers a tempting path to monetise your content, it’s important to remember that it’s not the only road to success on TikTok. As you’ve seen, numerous alternative avenues exist for generating income, each with its own set of requirements and strategies. Whether you choose to leverage the TikTok Creator Shop, promote your own products via bio links, or explore the world of live streaming with gifts, remember to prioritise quality content and audience engagement. By staying authentic, creative, and consistent in your approach, you can unlock income potential on TikTok, regardless of your access to the Creator Rewards Program.

Making Money on TikTok – Questions and Answers

Making money on TikTok is the latest trending side hustle but what does it actually take to make money on the post popular social media app in the world? Well as someone whos made thousands from the TikTok Creator Rewards Program I thought I’d explain all and answers the most frequent questions when it comes to making money on TikTok.

How much money can you actually make on TikTok?

The amount of money a creator can make on TikTok varies greatly depending on several factors, such as their follower count, engagement rates, content quality, and monetization strategies. Top-tier influencers and creators with millions of followers can potentially earn substantial sums, ranging from tens of thousands to even hundreds of thousands of dollars per month through brand sponsorships, gifts from fans during live streams, and TikTok’s Creator Fund. However, for the vast majority of creators, earnings are more modest, ranging from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars per month, primarily from the Creator Fund payouts and smaller brand deals.

How long does it take to start making money on TikTok?

While some creators may see earnings within a few months of consistent posting and building an audience, others may need to put in considerably more time and effort. The post suggests that it typically takes at least 6 months to a year of dedicated content creation, audience growth, and engagement before most creators can begin monetizing their TikTok presence through avenues like brand deals, influencer marketing campaigns, or selling merchandise to their followers. You could also check out our blog post on how you can make money immediately on TikTok without the Creativity Program.

What are the requirements for the TikTok Creativity Program?

The TikTok Creativity Program was introduced in 2023 as a way to allow creators to earn more money from their content. The previous TikTok Creator Fund only paid less than $0.10 per 1000 views which is similar to how much you earn from YouTube Shorts if you are in the YouTube Partner Program.

The entry requirements for the TikTok Creativity Program are:

  • Live in a Country where the Beta is currently active, these are the U.S, U.K, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, and Korea.
  • Have 10,000 TikTok Followers.
  • Have 100,000 Video views in the past 30 days.
  • Not to have posted reused and unoriginal content.

If you meet these requirements, then you shouldn’t have an issue with getting into the program.

How do TikTok brand deals work?

TikTok brand deals typically involve collaborations between businesses or brands and popular content creators on the platform. These deals work by brands reaching out to TikTok influencers or creators with a sizable following and engaging audience that aligns with their target demographic. The brand then compensates the creator, either through a flat fee or a commission-based structure, to create sponsored content that promotes or features the brand’s products or services. This sponsored content can take various forms, such as dedicated brand videos, product placements, challenges, or even simple endorsements within regular content.

The creator’s role is to creatively integrate the brand’s messaging or offerings into their content, leveraging their authenticity and connection with their audience. Brands benefit from the exposure and potential reach to the creator’s engaged followers, while creators earn revenue from these partnerships. Successful brand deals on TikTok require finding the right creator-brand fit, crafting engaging sponsored content, and effectively leveraging the platform’s viral nature.

Can you sell products directly on TikTok?

Yes, you can sell products directly on TikTok through the platform’s e-commerce integration features. TikTok has introduced several tools that allow businesses and content creators to showcase and sell their products within the app. One such feature is TikTok Shop, which enables users to create a dedicated storefront within the app, upload product catalogs, and tag products in their videos, making it easy for viewers to browse and purchase items directly from the content they’re watching.

Additionally, TikTok has partnered with popular e-commerce platforms like Shopify, allowing merchants to seamlessly integrate their online stores with their TikTok presence. With these features, businesses can leverage the vast audience and engagement on TikTok to drive product discovery, showcase their offerings, and facilitate direct sales, all within the same platform where users are already consuming and engaging with content.

How much do TikTok gifts translate to real money?

On TikTok, users can purchase virtual “gifts” to send to their favorite content creators during live streams. These gifts are represented by various animated icons and have different monetary values attached to them. Generally, the costlier the gift, the more value it holds for the creator. However, the actual amount of real money a creator receives from these gifts depends on TikTok’s revenue-sharing model and the creator’s specific agreement with the platform. Typically, creators only receive a portion of the gift’s face value, with TikTok retaining a significant cut.

While the exact percentages vary, estimates suggest that creators may receive anywhere from 50% to 70% of the gift’s value as real money, with the platform taking the remaining share as its commission. Nonetheless, for popular creators with large and dedicated fan bases, the collective value of these virtual gifts can potentially translate into substantial real-world earnings.

What kind of content performs best for making money on TikTok?

When it comes to making money on TikTok, the content that tends to perform best is short, attention-grabbing videos that tap into popular trends, challenges, or memes. Videos that feature entertaining or comedic content, catchy music or audio clips, and relatable or informative topics often resonate well with TikTok’s largely young audience.

Additionally, videos that showcase unique skills, talents, or creative ideas, as well as those that engage the audience through interactive challenges or prompts, can also gain substantial traction and monetization opportunities. Ultimately, the key to success on TikTok lies in consistently producing fresh, engaging content that aligns with the platform’s rapidly evolving trends and user preferences.

How to grow your TikTok audience fast?

To rapidly grow your TikTok audience, leverage trending sounds, hashtags, and challenges. Post consistently, ideally a few times a day, and optimize posting times for better reach depending on your target location. Collaborate with other creators in your niche for cross-promotion. Captivate viewers with high-quality, engaging content in a short timeframe, and include clear calls to action to hook them and keep them coming back for more.

Do you need a lot of followers to make money on TikTok?

A massive following isn’t the only route to TikTok riches. While the Creator Rewards Program requires a minimum of 10,000 followers, brand deals, affiliate marketing, and selling your own products through TikTok Shopping can be lucrative even with a smaller, engaged audience. Focus on high-quality, niche content and building strong connections with your viewers to open doors to alternative monetization methods. Most money making options require at least 1,000 followers though.

How can I find brands to partner with on TikTok?

To attract brands for TikTok partnerships, focus on building a strong, brand-friendly presence. Create high-quality, engaging content that aligns with a specific niche. Research and use relevant hashtags that not only fit your content but also attract your target brands. Actively engage with brands in your niche by commenting on their posts and participating in their challenges. Finally, consider influencer marketplaces or agencies that connect creators with brands for collaboration opportunities. You could also just email their marketing department yourself, you never know what could happen.

How much time does it take to create successful TikTok content?

The time commitment for successful TikTok content creation can vary greatly. While some videos go viral with minimal effort, consistency and quality are key ingredients. You’ll invest time in brainstorming ideas, filming, editing (which can range from simple cuts to elaborate effects), and staying updated on trends. Depending on your editing skills and video complexity, creating a polished video could take minutes to hours. Remember, building a successful presence often involves posting frequently, so factor in the time for multiple creations each week.

Are there any taxes to consider when making money on TikTok?

Absolutely! Even though TikTok fame might feel virtual, your earnings are real income. In most countries, income from TikTok, regardless of whether it’s from the Creator Rewards Program, brand deals, or selling products, is considered taxable income. The specific tax implications will vary depending on your location and earnings level. It’s important to understand tax laws and filing requirements to avoid penalties. Consider consulting a tax professional if your TikTok income becomes substantial. For example, in the UK you are allowed to earn up to £1,000 extra from your main job before you have to pay tax. Then once you earn above that you could have to pay 20%, 40% or more of your additional income.

What are some common scams to avoid when trying to make money on TikTok?

Be wary of “get rich quick” schemes on TikTok. Fake giveaways, promises of easy investments with high returns, or messages claiming you’ve won a massive prize but need to send money for “processing” are all red flags. Never click suspicious links, share personal information, or send money upfront. Stick to established monetization methods like the Creator Rewards Program, brand deals, or selling through TikTok Shopping, and do your research before partnering with any brand.

I’ve had millions of views on TikTok, why haven’t I been paid?

Millions of views are impressive, but they alone don’t guarantee TikTok income. The platform’s Creator Rewards Program, which pays for views, has minimum requirements (10,000 followers, 100,000 views in 30 days) and you might need to apply. Even if eligible, views from some countries and with low engagement pay less. Consider checking your Creator Rewards Program eligibility and exploring alternative monetization options like brand deals or selling through TikTok Shopping.

THE SECRET METHOD

Now I’m going to explain the secret method I used to get 3 accounts in the TikTok Creativity Program in 3 months. This method does cost money but saves you a lot of time and effort, basically the more money and time you have, the more accounts you can get monetised.

Instructions:

Make a TikTok Account, post a random video of anything you want, and then leave it for a week.

After that week, go to AllinOrder on Etsy and buy 10,000 TikTok Followers. You could buy less if you already have followers. The price changes but it is usually around $60.

You now have to wait a few weeks for the 10,000 followers to come.

Once you get 10,000 followers, you can start posting. I’d recommend posting photo slideshows capitalizing on recent trends on TikTok. This should get you the 100,000 views needed to join the Creativity Program pretty quickly. I usually get this done within a few days of getting the 10k followers. Don’t post anything apart from the initial video before you get the followers.

Once you get the 100,000 views you should be able to apply to join the Creativity Program and should have no issues getting accepted. I have done this multiple times using this exact method and have made almost £5000 in 60 days while spending just $180.
